The Wizard

about

The Bow River Lumber Company was in Victoria one time and my friend Don Cameron says "come on I got something I want to show you".
He takes me to whats called the break-wall during a storm and pulls out one of the finest joints of marijuana I have ever smoked. Then he pulls out a second. When we were done I swear I did see a wizard in the waves speaking to me, or maybe I was just buzzed but in any-case I wrote this song soon after with that experience in mind. If you are ever in Victoria during a storm, take a walk to the breakwater. Ya never know.

lyrics

The Wizard
It was just after dark thirty years ago
When the Wizard went for a walk
Done to the shore, where the waves did roar
Some spirits to conjure up

He uttered some strange incantations
Then stood as if waiting reply
His staff to the sky his arms spread wide
A fire was in his eye

Then a spirit stood there beside him
And demanded “Why do you call?”
The Wizard smiled and said “I’m lonely
Me. My power. And that’s all.

You see it’s been nigh on 10,000 years
I’ve now studied these things I know
And I’ve not know a warm touch
Just the occasional lost soul

And the sprit smiled said yes its been a while
Sense you’ve been whole
And you summoned me for relief
A soothing for you soul

But you foolish man you had it in your hand
And you let it go
And you come to me asking for relief
Freedom Freedom for your soul

solo

now 25 years have come and gone
since the Wizard last went for his walk
The magics gone and died but the spirits they still mock
Chours (repeat end)

"Why do I do this?” In the simplest terms it’s "I write, therefore I am." Corny, sure, but I actually hear myself thinking in song. Everything from the mundane to the serious... in my minds "ear" I hear melody lines and music when I am pondering .
Does that make me nuts? Maybe. Some of the songs that play in my head I am driven to share, to experience them with others. I am a song writer.
