Blues Man

about

When I was a very young child, no more than 4, I discovered a strange new box under the living room table. I worked at it for what seemed hours to finally get it open. Inside in the darkest blue crushed velvet was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was my Dad's horn. I never heard him play. Not once. This song is for him.

lyrics

Blues Man
(Chorus)
Honey I’m a blues man I was born a blues man’s son
And I’ve been running from the music, But now that run-in’s done
I’ve held those words within me and you know that it tore my soul
But the music wouldn’t ever let me go

Babe you know I love you and I’d hate to see you go
But the music’s really got me got my heart and got my soul
Well I ain’t got a living girl no I ain’t got a dime
But the music’s got me more and more all the time

(Chorus)

(Inst)

Darling if you left me will I know what I would do
Oh I’d sit myself right down write a song and dedicate it all to you
Sit down and write a song and it would make you feel so blue
What else you expect a blues man to do

(Chorus) Inst

(Chorus) (with these last 2 lines)

Well the music would not ever let me got
Like the music girl I may never let you go

"Why do I do this?” In the simplest terms it’s "I write, therefore I am." Corny, sure, but I actually hear myself thinking in song. Everything from the mundane to the serious... in my minds "ear" I hear melody lines and music when I am pondering .
Does that make me nuts? Maybe. Some of the songs that play in my head I am driven to share, to experience them with others. I am a song writer.
